JohnDoe grew up in a unstable environment with a alcoholic and abusive mother with no father figure. When he was of the age of six, he was already taking care of his younger brother and sister and working at the age of ten to make sure there was food on the table for his siblings. He was in charge of paying the bills with the little money provided by his irresponsible mother and keeping the living environment sanitary for his family.

When he was 16, he left his abusive home and moved in a good friend's home who then became his second family. From there, he concentrated on working with business rather than focusing on school. He never went to college, rather he started up over four of his own businesses. The profits were hundreds of thousands, enabling him to start a family of his own with more than enough to give them the best life possible.

When his first marriage failed, he turned to alcohol to relieve the pain he felt inside. Realizing how horrid the consequences could build up to be, he decided to turn to his old pastime hobby of writing. He ended up writing four books which were published, making millions. Through writing, it enabled him to get his life back on track, keep his businesses up and running, and focus on his four children he currently had.

He managed his businesses for twenty years and believed he was well off to retire early. Soon after his retirement, the economy crashed. Although this did not dramatically effect his and the lives of his family, it did hinder them from occupying full portions of land and taking their dream vacation trips. JohnDoe decided if he wanted to fulfill him and his family’s small dreams, he would have to start back up his work. Through the economic hard times, his businesses did not thrive to the fullest extent, rather put him in debt. He did not allow this to put him down. Instead it made him stronger and he was once again able to succeed. Through long hours of hard work and determination, he was able to continue his businesses debt free and thriving with income.

Through all he has been through it makes me look at my life and determine if i want circumstance to control my actions. Many people blame their past for their actions today. Yes, it does have some effect on what you decide to do in life and the choices you make, but it does not control your decisions, let alone your life. You can not blame circumstance on actions. His determination to pick himself up and dedication to his family made him a stronger and better man. I would only hope to measure up to him someday as i continue to make life changing decisions every day. What we decide to do now will affect who we become in the future. He taught me that i don’t have to fall into the same pattern as my family. Just as he once did, i can rise above it. Sarah Slone

  1. I guess my previous comment was lost, but here's basically what I said: this narrative is a little too broad- you give kind of a wikipedia version of this person's life (incidentally, it's a bit distracting how you call him "John Doe," as it's a sure tipoff that you're hiding his true identity), when a more compelling story would show specific moments that illustrate his ability to rise above adversity. Tell us about the moment he made the decision to leave home, or to stop drinking...
